Alberto Vásquez “Every day the University devotes itself to its patient and daily search for Truth, Beauty and Good”
Monsignor Alejandro Menchaca Lira Founding Documents of the University Schools September 9, 1959
On the eve of the 50th anniversary of our university, we are aware that we must continue with and reinforce the original mission of the Catholic University of Temuco, faithfully following our founders’ search for truth, beauty and good.
As we consider our roots, we rediscover our university’s identity. We are a university, and as such, we value our contribution to society, a contribution marked by being a Catholic institution which aims to serve culture, society, and the great essential values: truth and human dignity, each embodied in the spiritual, intellectual, and moral development of every one of its members.
The university is a space essentially devoted to the search for good, truth, and beauty. These three great aspirations of men and women throughout time requires passionate, patient and rigorous faculty who cultivate the sciences and arts and are fully aware of the values that they study and develop. It also requires that our faculty be fully conscious of their goals and of the consequences that result from the practical application of the material they investigate and teach. A true passion for truth, good, and beauty, in academic terms, creates a true university in practice.
I would like to invite you to open your minds. I invite the members of this university to broaden our horizons. Our dreams are our founders’ dreams. They are the original foundation that foster and invigorate our university’s mission and which give it an academic, ecclesiastical and regional meaning. And we are here to make those dreams a reality. Also, I invite the current and future students to broaden their horizons and to reach for a great, challenging, and fascinating dream—a dream which gives meaning and direction to their lives, tasks, and studies; a dream that they will find at the Catholic University of Temuco.
